Do Woodall’s Readers Have Talent? If So, Prove it At the 2010 Rally!

April 12, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Louisville is known for being the home of Muhammad Ali, Diane Sawyer, Lance Burton, and Hunter S. Thompson, but the talent doesn’t stop there. The Rally, taking place July 22-25, is the largest RV event of the year, and it will showcase not only the talented likes of Bob Newhart & Tanya Tucker but also the remarkable skills of its talented guests. If you plan on attending The Rally (and you should) you can also show off your skills in “The Rally’s Got Talent.” The Rally is inviting all interested guests to pre-register for the show by submitting a video to  www.youtube.com/channel/rallygottalent.  Acts that pass the first round of judging will be asked to audition at the show, and finalists will perform Sunday evening in front of a live audience.  So dust off your tap shoes, practice your routine, and submit your talent today!  For more information about “The Rally’s Got Talent,” visit www.TheRally.com/events/the-rallys-got-talent/

Fort Stockton RV Park, Fort Stockton, Texas

Fort Stockton RV Park, Fort Stockton, Texas

If you are traveling across I-10 in West Texas, don’t miss the Fort Stockton RV Park. It seems like Texas goes on for days (you know what I mean!) and to be able to stop here, get a pull-thru site, and have a dynamite dinner in the cafe is a real dream come true. Get to the cafe early enough in the evening to have the rib dinner, their specialty and my favorite. You will want to have breakfast there the next morning, too. The park store has anything and everything you might need to stock up on and the staff will greet you and make registration a snap so all you need do is relax and plan not to cook! Yes, even someone like me who loves to cook needs a break like this (’cause remember how BIG Texas is and how far between stops it is here and how tired these long miles can make us and there’s more reasons too lengthy to list here like your donut pillow went flat or something like that or the generator wouldn’t start and nobody got any pop corn or, I don’t... [Read more...]

Wash Your Hands!

Wash Your Hands!

We are almost to the end of the preparation list I made, and I have to say that I am relieved.  You can research a subject to death, and then you just have to put what you have learned into practice.  If we forget something, we’ll improvise. If we don’t do something right, we’ll learn from our mistakes, and do better the next time.  From the beginning of this journey I have intended to do a back yard test run before our first camping trip, and we are almost to that point.  I can’t wait! Our son David is no less excited.  When I can’t find my Woodall’s North American Campground Directory, I know that he has it. David is hoping that one of our first stays will be at a Camp Jellystone Resort.  He has been sure to show me every one of them in the Directory.  He has also seen the ads about campgrounds that have “planned activities for children”.  He likes those and the ads for campgrounds with swimming pools.  For some reason I feel the need to apologize to tent camping... [Read more...]

The Three Puppies Hike in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, MN

Annie here again. Last summer my mom, dad and Ryan, who was 17, planned a camping trip up to Minnesota to hike in a place called the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. I was excited because the puppies and I got to come along and it sounded like a nice wild place. We were planning to climb to the highest point in Minnesota, Eagle Mountain. Mom, Molly and I on the shore of Lake Superior My mom had reserved a campsite for us in the Temperance River State Park Campground which sat right on the shores of Lake Superior. After mom, dad and Ryan set up the camper, mom made a stew that smelled really yummy which we didn’t get to eat, then we all went for a walk along the lakeshore. We got to stick our feet in and drink some of the cold, clear water. Then we headed back to the camper and turned in because we wanted to get up early for our hike the next day. Mom, Molly and I at the entrace to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area We got an early start the next morning and were on the trail before 6:30. The... [Read more...]

White Oak Campground

White Oak Campground

I wasn’t sure I wanted to share my little secret, but that wouldn’t be fair, so I’ll tell you my favorite campground to visit in Lancaster PA is White Oak Campground. There are more campgrounds in Lancaster then you could shake a stick at, and we’ve stayed at several, but we always go back to White Oak. This quiet little campground seems to fit right into the Amish countryside, with it’s tall shade trees and open meadow. Lancaster is so packed full of things to do, that we really don’t feel the need to stay at a campground that has our day planned out, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s just not our style. White Oak doesn’t have a pool, but they sit on the hillside, so you’re sure to catch any summer breeze that blows. There are two small playgrounds for the little ones to play on in between our many trips around the area. There’s also a large open field to play in, fly a kite, toss a ball, or just sit and watch the Amish buggies go up... [Read more...]

Lakewood C.R. in Myrtle Beach

One of the biggest struggles for many families these days can be taking a family vacation without breaking the bank.   For a lot of us, the word ‘vacation’ conjures up pleasant thoughts of relaxation for Dad & Mom, and exciting, new activities for the kids. And for our northwestern family, it also meant a day at the beach!  Knowing that we were going to be in South Carolina, we searched for a family campground at Woodalls.com, and were given a plethora of options. We decided to give Lakewood Camping Resort (awarded Woodall’s highest 5W/5W rating) in Myrtle Beach a try, and what we found was that a family camping resort absolutely fit the bill for a wonderful family get-away!   Lakewood C.R. is an oceanfront campground with so many amenities that I am sure I will miss some!  One of the best things that we did was to purchase their optional Family Value Fun Pass Package.  At $10/day, it allows all the members of a family to access  mini golf, Water... [Read more...]

Cooking and Counter Space in Your RV

Cooking and Counter Space in Your RV

Cooking is one of my favorite things to do in my nice kitchen with plenty of counter space at our home, but cooking in the RV can sometimes be a challenge. I’m sort of notorious for getting every pot and pan in the whole kitchen dirty. Let’s face it, most of our RV kitchens are lacking, and especially lacking in counter space. There are a few tricks I can recommend from experience that can help get past this problem. If you can really put on a show and sigh some and talk about how you’d really like to be able to make that perfect pot roast, but, oh gosh it’s so hard to work in this space but it sure would be good and anyway and soooooooo, what are you doing right now, honey? In our RV, this usually gets him interested in a really good meal that might make it to the tiny dining table from the tiny easy bake size oven and kitchen, if he helps. What form this usually takes in our traveling circus show is his following me around the tiny kitchen cleaning up messes as I make them. This... [Read more...]

A New Family Tradition

A New Family Tradition

Earlier this week our family celebrated the last day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread while we rejoiced in the resurrection of our Savior.  Every year we enjoy this as a day of rest, but this year we did something different.  The weather was absolutely beautiful, so we packed a lunch and headed for the Tennessee side of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.      Our picnic was not an ordinary picnic.  We were eating only unleavened bread, so I had to get creative.  I couldn’t prepare the usual sandwiches for an outing like this, so we had tacos!  I can honestly say that I have never in my life had tacos on a picnic, but it was a nice change of pace.  It doesn’t matter what kind of food it is, for some reason food eaten outside at a picnic table surrounded by trees always tastes better to me.  What made it even better was that we got to listen to the sound of the Little Pigeon River as we chowed down.      After lunch we set up our lawn chairs by the river and... [Read more...]

Emerald Isle North Carolina Ocean Front Camping

Emerald Isle North Carolina Ocean Front Camping

For those of us that live in the eastern part of central Virginia, it was an unusually long, cold and snowy winter — the type of winter that gives you a gnawing fit of “cabin fever” and makes the lust for green grass, flowers and birds even more intense. Finally, April has arrived – bringing with it longer days, more sunshine and the opportunity to get outdoors and bask in the beauty of the surrounding nature. There is only one thing better than beautiful weather in April.  It is beautiful weather at the ocean in April! We left home after Church Easter Sunday heading down to Emerald Isle, NC.  There we camp at the Holiday Trav-L-Park Resort for Campers off of Coast Guard Road and just over the bridge to the island (If the link does not work, cut and past the following URL into your browser: http://www.htpresort.com .  We have been coming to this campground since the early 80’s, long before the condos along the road were ever built.  To us, it is one of the most... [Read more...]
