Light up the Fireworks: Top Fourth of July Parks
Do fireworks and parades tickle your fancy? Or do you prefer flipping burgers on a grill amid star-spangled streamers? If you’re on the road on Independence Day, consider staying at an RV park that gets into the revolutionary spirit with special events ranging from barbecues to pyrotechnics.
Here are a handful of RV parks that fly the red, white and blue with pride. These parks were chosen by the editors and consultants of the Good Sam RV Travel Guide and Campground Directory out of our database of more than 14,000 campgrounds.
At Escondido RV Resort – Sunland in Escondido, California, the staff put on a barbecue and potluck for all the guests. RVers can also witnes amazing pyrotechnics at nearby Grape Day Park, which hosts the city’s annual July 4 fireworks display. It’s an evening of family, fun and entertainment with musical acts and other wholesome entertainment. Back at the campground, RVers can fry up burgers at their on-site barbecues or simply enjoy the 30/50-amp power.
The Independence Day Celebration thrown at Yogi Bear Jellystone Park/Lonestar in Waller, Texas, is a five-day festival that starts with a Pledge Allegiance and includes Fourth of July-themed bike and golf park parade. Guests can also compete in the Best Decorated Site/Cabin contest, go to a Fourth-themed dance party or enjoy a red-white-and-blue hay ride. Also in July, the RV park hosts a Pirates and Princess Weekend, Watermelon Weekend and Oldies/50s Weekend.
At Eagle’s Rest RV Park & Cabins in Valdez, Alaska, visitors can check out the local town’s Independence Day Parade, decorated Tourist Parade and Canoe Jousting. RVers can hold their own Fourth of July celebrations at sites powered by 20/30/50 amps. Take advantages of fishing licenses sold on site and fish cleaning tables in the campground so that fish gets put on the Fourth of July cookout menu.
Guests at Lake George RV Park can participate in a special July 4th Celebration at the campground’s Bingo Pavilion. The event includes free Family Bingo with a chance to win a shopping voucher for goods and services at the campground store. Afterwards, it’s time to hit the floor as a local DJ spins hits from contemporary tunes to golden oldies. All ages are welcome. Also held on that day: Reptile Encounters, which gives kids of all ages a chance to see turtles, snakes and other creepy crawlies up close.
With stunning views of Mount Whitney and the Alabama Hills, Boulder Creek RV Resort puts guests in the lap of natural splendor.
