Best Road Trip Ever App

Best Road Trip Ever App

We are a family that loves to explore around while we are going on vacation.   To be honest, while we will enjoy going to the beach for a few hours, I don’t think we could last a whole day sitting in the sand, playing in the water and so on.  Mind you it could be different with kids (we have never went to the beach with them yet…) but deep down I think it’s better to plan how much time you... [Read more]

Preparing for Florida

Preparing for Florida

Recently my husband and I are talking about the possibility of going to Florida next year.   We would love to bring the kids are various theme parks including the famous Walt Disney World.   We have been putting money aside monthly for quite some time and our dream is so close to become a reality.  Our plan is to take one and a half to two months off so that we can have fabulous family memories... [Read more]

Billings Estate National Historic Site

Billings Estate National Historic Site

For the first time this week, we went to a small museum in our city.   It was the historic estate of one of Ottawa’s founding families and we learned more about how the Billings family settled on the shores of the Rideau River in 1812, build farms, constructed a bridge and managed a timber business. It was a field trip organized by another homeschooling mom in town but I think it is fascinating... [Read more]

The convenience of a coffee machine

The convenience of a coffee machine

Starting tomorrow in Canada, it’s the anniversary sale at Wal-Mart.   And on the first page of the flyer, our eyes saw the special for a Keurig machine like the one we have at home.   69$ Canadian.  Hmmmm.   We are seriously thinking of purchasing one of the trailer when we are away from home. Like I mentioned, we have one at home but bringing it back and forth is a little bit inconvenient. ... [Read more]

I Scream, You Scream, We Scream for Ice Cream

I Scream, You Scream, We Scream for Ice Cream

When we used to drive to Northern Ontario (New Liskeard to be exact), my husband used to stop on the way in and back to a special ice cream place in Deep River – Laurentian View Dairy.  We would even stop on our way back when it was winter time.   Then the unthinkable happened… my in-laws moved closer to us and we had no opportunity to drive to New Liskeard anymore. But last month, after... [Read more]

Exploring North Bay

Exploring North Bay

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, we recently attended a family reunion in Northern Ontario.   We knew well in advance of this trip and decided to stop at a campground in North Bay so that we can cut the trip in two while we drove there.   So we reserve at a local campground – Dreany Haven – for a night and went to explore the town were my husband lived a few years while growing up.   The tradition... [Read more]

The benefits of owning a generator

The benefits of owning a generator

Last year, my husband has made a purchase for the RV after thinking about it for the past two previous years.   After checking prices and looking at the different models he could purchase, he decided to get a used generator that had been barely used by the previous owner. Turns out that this purchase has been fabulous in numerous ways whether while we were on the road or during the family reunion... [Read more]

Using your RV to attend a family reunion – yes it’s possible.

Using your RV to attend a family reunion – yes it’s possible.

Three years of planning that finally arrived to reality over the past week-end.   We drove to Cobalt, ON in order to attend a family reunion of my mother-in-law side of the family.  Her mom – my husband’s grand-mother and my kids’ great-grand-mother – is the pillar of the family nowadays.   Nevertheless everyone in this family was present.    With over 13 children and their... [Read more]

Learning history while rving

Learning history while rving

Do you take the time to learn more about the history of the area you are in when you are traveling with your family? We try as much as we can. But right under our nose – at the campsite where we are parked – there was some history to discover. Actually, I knew about it. It has been 10 years since we started parking our RV at Logos Land Resort on highway 17, in Cobden, ON. We knew an historical... [Read more]

Learning more about Canada at the Museum of Civilization

Learning more about Canada at the Museum of Civilization

As part of our recent visit to the Museum of Civilization, we have also explored part of the historical and cultural exhibition on the First Peoples Hall.   The museum highlights various parts of the history of Canada and it’s always nice to go see artifacts up close and personal while visiting. The First Peoples Hall contains over 2000 artifacts that come from Canada’s Aboriginal peoples from... [Read more]
